Psalm 142
Lord, listen to my prayer; turn Your ear to my appeal;* You are faithful, You are just; give answer.
Do not call Your servant to judgment* for no one is just in Your sight.
The enemy pursues my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground;* He has made me dwell in darkness like the dead, long forgotten.
Therefore, my spirit fails;* my heart is numb within me.
I remember the days that are past: I ponder all Your works;* I muse on what Your hand has wrought and to You I stretch out my hands.
Like a parched land my soul thirsts for You;* Lord, make haste and answer; for my spirit fails within me.
Do not hide Your face* lest I become like those in the grave.
In the morning let me know Your love for I put my trust in You;* make me know the way I should walk;
to You I lift up my soul Rescue me, Lord, from my enemies;* I have fled to You for refuge.
Teach me to do Your will, for You, O Lord, are my God;* let Your good Spirit guide me in ways that are level and smooth.
For Your name's sake, Lord, save my life;* in Your justice save my soul from distress.
In Your love make an end of my foes;* destroy all those who oppress me for I am Your servant, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glory be to You, O God (3x).

Psalm 50
Have mercy on me, God, in Your kindness.* In Your compassion blot out my offense.
O wash me more and more from my guilt* and cleanse me from my sin.
My offenses truly I know them;* my sin is always before me.
Against You, You alone, have I sinned;* what is evil in Your sight I have done.
That You may be justified when You give sentence* and be without reproach when You judge.
O see, in guilt I was born,* a sinner was I conceived.
Indeed, You love truth in the heart;* then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.
O purify me, then I shall be clean;* O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me hear rejoicing and gladness,* that the bones You have crushed may rejoice.
From my sins turn away Your face* and blot out all my guilt.
A pure heart create for me, O God,* put a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,* nor deprive me of Your Holy Spirit.
Give me again the joy of Your help;* with a spirit of fervor sustain me,
That I may teach transgressors Your ways* and sinners may return to You.
O rescue me, God, my helper,* and my tongue shall ring out Your goodness.
O Lord, open my lips* and my mouth shall declare Your praise.
For in sacrifice You take no delight,* burnt offering from me You would refuse.
My sacrifice, a contrite spirit.* A humbled, contrite heart You will not spurn.
In Your goodness, show favor to Zion:* rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then You will be pleased with lawful sacrifice, burnt offerings wholly consumed,* Then You will be offered young bulls on Your altar.

Ps 43 (Tone 4)
Stand up and come to our help! Redeem us because of Your love.
Verse: We heard with our own ears, O God, our forebears have told us the story.
Deacon: Wisdom!
Lector: A reading from the Book of the prophet Ezekiel.
Deacon: Let us be attentive!
The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he led me out in the spirit of the LORD and set me in the center of the plain, which was now filled with bones. He made me walk among them in every direction so that I saw how many they were on the surface of the plain. How dry they were! He asked me: Son of man, can these bones come to life? "Lord God," I answered, "you alone know that." Then he said to me: Prophesy over these bones, and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GoD to these bones: See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may come to life. I will put sinews upon you, make flesh grow over you, cover you with skin; and put spirit in you so that you may come to life and know that I am the LORD. I prophesied as I had been told, and even as I was prophesying I heard a noise; it was a rattling as the bones came together, bone joining bone. I saw the sinews and the flesh come upon them, and the skin cover them, but there was no spirit in them. Then he said to me, Prophesy to the spirit, son of man, and say to the spirit: Thus says the Lord GoD: From the four winds come, O spirit, and breathe into these slain that they may come to life. I prophesied as he told me, and the spirit came into them; they came alive and stood upright, a vast army. Then he said to me: son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They have been saying, "Our bones are dried up, our hope is lost, and we are cut off?" Therefore, prophesy and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and have you rise from them, O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. I have promised, and I will do it, says the LORD.
Immediately, the prokimenon is sung according to matinal tone 7.
Arise then, Lord, lift up Your hand! O God, do not for- get the poor!
Verse: I wil praise You, Lord, with al my heart: I wil recount all Your wonders.
Deacon: Wisdom!
Lector: A reading from the first epistle of St. Corinthians.
Deacon: Let us be attentive!
Brethren: your boasting is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough? Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wicked- ness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Christ ransomed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for ti is written, "Cursed be everyone who hangs on a tree," that the blessing of Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Alleluia! (Tone 5)
Verse (Ps 67): Let God arise and let His enemies be scat- tered, and let those who hate Him flee from before His face.
Verse: As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish as melts before a fire.
Verse: So let the wicked perish at the presence of God, and let the righteous ones rejoice.
The deacon, having incensed the holy shroud, the priests, and the people, intones:
Wisdom! Let us stand and listen to the holy Gospel!
Priest: Peace be with al. Choir: And with your spirit.
Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Choir: Glory to Your passion, O Lord!
Gospel: Mt 27:62-66. The priest himself reads the Gospel.
The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Therefore, order the sepulchre to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away, and tell the people, `He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers; go, make it as secure as you can.” So they went and made the sepulchre secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.
Choir: Glory to Your long-suffering, O Lord!
Then the deacon says the litany:
Have mercy on us, O God, in the greatness of Your compassion, we pray You, hear us and have mercy.

Choir: Amen.
The noble Joseph* took down your most pure body from the cross.* He wrapped it in a clean shroud,* and with fragrant spices laid it in burial in a new tomb.
